Alex Burns BA(Hons) Dip Psych. MBACP MBPsS
I have been a psychotherapist in private practice for thirty years offering psychodynamic psychotherapy and counselling to both individual clients and couples. Prior to qualifying as a Psychologist and Psychotherapist I had some twenty years’ experience working in human resources as well as counselling and healthcare work with adolescents and adults in both the public and private sector. I have also lectured in Developmental Psychology to undergraduates at Middlesex University.
In addition to my Rugby practice for twenty five years I was in practice in Hampstead, North West London. In parallel to private practice, for over a decade, I trained psychotherapists, recently retiring from my role as Vice Chair of Training and joint Course Director of the Masters in Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy at the Institute of Psychotherapy and Social Studies (IPSS).
In 1986, my colleague Dr Jill Singer and I founded the North West London Psychotherapy Centre (NWLPC) which uniquely brought together Psychotherapists from different Psychotherapeutic disciplines offering potential clients referral to a therapist able to meet the individual needs of that client. Although I no longer practice in London, I remain as Director of Psychoanalytic Psychotherapy to the North West London Psychotherapy Centre where I also undergo my Continuing Professional Development (CPD).
My practice is now based in the Hillmorton area of Rugby. New clients are welcome to contact me directly without the need to be referred by their GP. I am also able to provide therapy to BUPA Members.
I am a Member of the British Psychological Society (BPsS), a Member of the British Association For Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and a member of the College of Psychoanalysts - UK. In 1999 I was awarded Honorary Life Membership of the Institute of Psychotherapy and Social Studies (IPSS). As a member of these organisations I am subject to their codes of Ethical Principles and Practice.
